JOGULAMBA GADWAL KINGDOM AND IT's HYSTORY

Jogulamba Gadwal District has the mixed culture of Telangana, Rayalseema and Karnataka. Alampur and Gadwal are historically renowned places. The District is under Tungabhadra and Krishna River basin. Alampur, is one of the major town, known as DAKSHINA KASHI situated on the bank of the Sacred river of Tungabhadra is a historically significant temple. This temple town is home to an ancient shrine of Goddess of 5th Shakti peetham called as Jogulamba Devi. Listed among the eighteen powerful Shakti peethams, this temple in Alampur is a popular divine destination and this district is named after this temple. .

The famous ancient Bala Brahmeshwara Swamy Temple is also situated at Alampur. The famous Sangameshwara Swamy Temple was shifted from the confluence of Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers and reconstructed in the outskirts of Alampur. Huge gatherings of pilgrims visit Alampur on Maha Shivaratri day every year. Visitors to this shrine also explore the rare Nava Brahama temples in its vicinity.

Gadwal Samsthan has a wonderful history. Gadwal historically served as the capital of Gadwal Samsthanam, a vassal of the Nizam of Hyderabad. Gadwal was previously part of the Raichur region of Hyderabad-Karnataka.

Gadwal Fort is one of the most prominent and fascinating tourist attractions in the town. Built by the strongman of Gadwal, Peda Soma Bhupaludu in 17th Century, Gadwal Fort is considered an invincible fort. The Chenna Kesava Swamy Temple, also built by the Gadwal rulers in the 17th century is another popular tourist attraction and pilgrimage centre in Gadwal. Sri Ramalayam, many historical materials and a water body.

Gadwal is also famous for Gadwal sarees. Gadwal is renowned all over the world for its exclusive handloom zari sarees and other useful fabrics and materials. The historic town in the state of Telangana is well-known for its quality fabrics. They are most notable for the Zari on the saris. The sari consists of a cotton body with a silk pallu which called Sico saris. The weave is so light that the saree can be packed in a matchbox. For Lord Venkateshwara Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Bramhotsavam starts with Gadwala-weaved Pattu Vastralu every year.

In the year of 1995, the First project in Telangana that was built on Krishna River called Priyadarshini Jurala Project in Dharoor mandal in this district. Located near Gadwal town is the first such dam built near the entry point of Krishna river into the state from Karnataka. The backwater of the massive dam offers a pleasant sight and has become a popular tourist attraction, attracting people from all over.

Nettempadu and Jurala provide water for irrigation. Jurala power plant produces 200 million units of electricity every year. Alampur is the next largest town with a population of 35,021. Gadwal revenue division is the only revenue division in this district and there are 12 mandals in this district. Gadwal and Alampur are the Assembly constituencies that come under this district.

Swayambhu Lakshmi Venkateshwara Swamy Temple at Maldakal is also famous and jathara is being celebrated every year in the month of December, there will be gathering of pilgrims about 1 lakh. It is said that visiting this temple is like visiting a temple in Tirupati.

Lord Anjaneyaswamy temple located at Beechupally is one of the famous temples in the combined Mahabubnagar district located on the bank of Krishna River. Every year Jathara will be celebrated in the month of May.

Goddess Jammulamma temple is located at Jammished village of Gadwal Mandal and which is near to the Gadwal Town is one of the famous temple and jathara is being celebrated every year in the month of January/Febraury, there will be huge gathering of pilgrims from Karnataka and AP and also Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthy.

Jogulamba Gadwal district is one of the 33 districts in the state of Telangana. Jogulamba-Gadwal District has been carved out from Mahbubnagar District of Telangana, and was made as a district on October 11, 2016 with the administrative headquarters located at Gadwal town. The district is spread across an area of 2575.5 square kilometres. According to 2011 Census of India, the district has a population of 6,09,990. Gadwal town is the district headquarters, which has a population of 63,177. Gadwal town, located nearly 210 km from Hyderabad is well accessible by Bangalore-Hyderabad National Highway 44.

This District covers 12 Revenue Mandals viz 1) Gadwal, 2) Ghattu, 3) Dharur, 4) Maldakal, 5) KT Doddi, 6) Alampur, 7) Itikyala, 8) Undavelly, 9) Waddepally, 10) Ieeja, 11) Rajoli and 12) Manopad. All the area is located in between perennial Krishna River and its tributary Thungabadra River and this area is called as “NADIGADDA”. Wanaparthy District, Raichur District of Karnataka of State and Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh are bordering to This District.

The NH-44 is passing through this District for about 45 KMs, from Beechpally Bridge on Krishna River up to Toll plaza at the outskirts of Pullur village.

There are ( 5) Railway Stations under this Sub-Division namely 1) Gadwal, 2) Poodur 3) Itikyala, 4) Alampur Road and 5) Manopad. Apart from it, there are 2 Railway Halts at Peddadinne and Jogulamba Halt. Total Track length is 53 KMs.

VITAL INSTALLATIONS: Priyadarshini Jurala Project has been constructed on Krishna River near Nandimalla and Revulapally villages on Krishna River was inaugurated and dedicated to the Nation by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of A.P. on 5.8.1996. Hydel Electricity Power Generation Project at P.J.P Dam is constructed, inaugurated and dedicated to the Nation by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of erstwhile AP State Late Sri.Y.S.Rajashekhar Reddy on 5.10.2008. There are no.of Engineers and labours from China are working in PJP Hydel Project at Chintharevula village. Nettempadu lift irrigation is constructed on Krishna River at the outskirts of Nettempadu village of Dharoor Mandal and Thummilla lift irrigation project is constructed on Thungabadra River at the outskirts of Thummilla village. Kothapally lift irrigation project is located at a distance of about 8 km from Gadwal District Hqrs. ****
